My name is Dave Curry — and yes, I was born right here in Nassau. As we say so proud, ‘I’s born here!’ This island raised me.
My mom is from Cat Island, my dad from Exuma, so my heart has always lived across these islands. That might explain why I do what I do — and why I love it the way I do.
Before tours, before buses, before branding, I worked wherever I could. Warehouses, landscaping, helping my father where needed. I remember watching the salespeople coming through places like Bristol and BWA when I worked in the warehouses and thinking, that’s what I want to do. I wanted to connect with people. I wanted to tell stories. I wanted to represent something bigger than myself.
Tourism runs in my blood. My father started Big Bubba Tours, and even before I was old enough to be insured, I was right there — meeting guests, learning how to host, watching how experiences are built. Some of my earliest lessons came from selling in the Straw Market with my grandmother. Mama Curry worked until almost 90 years old, and from the time I was about seven, I was right beside her. Those days taught me pride, hustle, respect, and the value of people.
Simply Dave Tours was born out of necessity — and honestly, a little bit of courage. I needed to stand out. Some people laughed at the name at first. But there’s always an angel when you need one. A man once told me, “You do what you need to do to get customers.” Fifteen years later, here we are.
The funny thing is, the customers never really leave. They come back — again and again. They become friends. I believe tourism is everybody’s business. Even more than our Prime Minister, we are the ambassadors of this country.
What brings me the most joy is the people. Working with places like John Watling’s Distillery, Tasty Teas, Graycliff — it reminds me how much pride lives here.
I love what I do. I love my people. And every day I get to show someone my home, I’m reminded why I started in the first place.
Born here. Still here. Always welcoming you.
